The Positive Side of Science Fairs
Author: car932Teachers are starting to partake in it more, and research is also agreeing with the student's success, science fairs are great stepping stones in a student's education. Every student learns at a different rate and learns in a different format. A science fair gives the student the opportunity to learn in several different types of atmospheres. The learning can happen from the student having to do research on their project that gives them a better understanding of how critical thinking happens, the student has to present their project on a display board in front of an audience, or the student can learn from reading what they have written down.
With science being everywhere in every one's life, understanding how science affects your life is a good way to get students further interested in school. To keep a student interested in their learning, you have to create a fun and very open learning foundation like science fairs. This meaning that the student will get bored with sitting in a class room all day long and just taking notes of what is written on a chalk board, so science fairs give the students something totally different and exciting. Students will create almost a challenge against one another to see who can have the better displays and who will have the better experiment. Competition is good in fifth graders or any Junior High level for that matter, because competition is shown to bring the best performances out of people.
Lastly, the best part to look at in science is the further learning in other fields. Science is a very broad category that can lead one to several different elements of learning. If a student is researching about the compounds of water for instance, the next area the student could be reading about can be anything from chemistry to botany or zoology. Science creates an imagination and a understanding in the students minds that allow them to be able to do research by themselves and understand what they are researching about. Then when science fairs come up, this is where the student gets to show off all their hard work. And usually, each student will have a display board completely different from the next student's display board, so you will see very wide open presentations.
